In the spirit of establishing an unlimited flow of hot recs, we are introducing a new segment where Monica (@signodepesos) will take a look back into each decade in order to find the spiciest songs out there. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Guess who’s back! Summer is over but our journey through the decades never stops. So start your weekend by pressing play on the playlist and revisiting these seven songs.
60s
The Rain The Park And Other Things - The Cowsills (1967)
One of those perfect happy 60s pop songs to say hello to the sunny but chilly fall weather. Bonus points if you listen to it on sunday morning.
70s
Un rayo de sol - Los Diablos (1970)
You know this one, from spanish band Los Diablos. One of those songs you can sing with your entire family and enjoy doing it.
80s
Pasajera en Trance - Charly García & Pedro Aznar
Now we’re going to Argentina in the 80s with one of its most beloved rock legends. Forget about the passenger, this one puts ME in a trance… and can we talk about Pedro’s bass?
90s
The Move - The Beastie Boys (1998)
One of the biggest selling rap groups of all time and for good reason. This song is one of my favorites from this album and I hope that sample from Los Angeles Negros sets the tone for the rest of your weekend.
00s
Soul Purpose - Nightmares On Wax (2006)
Chill trip-hop because sometimes it is necessary, sis.
10s
Bout des doigts - The Brian Jonestown Massacre (2016)
If you already like The Brian Jonestown Massacre you are probably wondering why I added them with this one and not one of their 90s/00s songs and okay, I get it. I feel bad too. But although I do love their “60s psych rock revival” era, in this bside single released in 2016 you can listen to a modern shoegaze side of their sound without losing those amazing guitar melodies (and, of course, the tambourine).
20s
Woman - Little Simz (ft. Cleo Sol) (2021)
It's been a month since Little Simz released her fourth album ‘Sometimes I Might Be Introvert’ and, to be honest, I'm still trying to recover from the whole experience. This single (featuring Cleo Sol) just strokes all the right parts of my neo-soul loving brain and I hope it does the same for you.
Find the mood to dig deep into all of these songs and hit me up with your comments or recs @signodepesos or @grounded_musique.
