This week’s selection is filled with dance, electronic and pop tunes. From 70s Canadian electronica to 2010’s french dream-pop we will groove through the decades. So turn on, tune in, drop out.
5 a.m. - The Millennium (1968)
USA - Sunshine Pop
I've been listening to this song for years and just recently discovered that it isn’t a 2010’s indie pop track. The band was actually formed in 1968 by Curt Boettcher, who also produced it, and even though it didn't do well in the charts at the time it still sounds fresh.
Dancer - Gino Soccio (1979)
Canada - Dance / Electronica
An eurodisco inspired track by a Canadian musician and Kraftwerk fan. It’s not surprising that this was his big hit, the funky riff and groove is addictive.
Histoire d’un soir (Bye bye les galères) - Bibi Flash (1983)
France - Dance / Pop
Fresh and french 80s disco groove with a catchy pop chorus. A song you can’t help but dance to.
Before Today - Everything But The Girl (1996)
England - Pop / Electronica
One of the singles of the duo’s ninth studio album. The tender vocals, the percussion, and the sub-bass make this a hypnotizing song that feels as good as it sounds.
En Particulier - Blonde Redhead (2000)
USA - Rock / Electronic
Blonde Redhead was formed when two Japanese friends met two Italian twin brothers at a restaurant in New York. They have been compared to Sonic Youth which is not that surprising when you discover that they were signed by Sonic Youth’s drummer’s label.
Laetitia Sadier - Un Soir, Un Chien (2010)
France - Dream Pop
Actually a cover, but worth it through the iconic vocals of Laetitia Sadier.
Symbols, Tokens - Sen Morimoto (2020)
Japan - Pop / Jazz-Rap
From the latest album of multi-instrumentalist Sen Morimoto, this tune has less sax jazz and more electronic touches than usual. It also mentions Stephen Hawking, FYI.
