Hey good looking ppl! A lot has happened since the last time I sent my music recs. I finally got my booster shot (and almost died), Europe is having a not great time rn (and celebs have tweeted at Putin endlessly), House of Gucci didn’t get any Oscar noms (thank gawd), Wordle was cool for a minute (and then it wasn’t), and there is a new grounded collaborator (s/o Danae)!
So given that the world is slowly ending and not in epic fashion this week’s music recs are slow and nice jams that will get you ready to relax at your crib. Less gooo
Doris - Texas Moon (Khruangbin & Leon Bridges)
Following up on their smashing success Texas Sun, the very smooth duo have released a B-Side called Texas Moon. Doris is a classic Khruangbin slow jam with Leon Bridges’ soothing deep voice. This record demands for it to be listened to in an analogue format, so go and cop the vinyl.
I’m Doing Fine (feat. Amp Dog Knight) - Moodyman
I recently saw Moodyman live for the first time and it was exactly as I hoped for. He played a set from 2am to 4am, wore an all-black fit (including a hoodie and face mask), said like 14 words all night, and had a great mix. This song had me pumped up all week to see him and will help you not think (about you know what ☢️).
Sittin’ Here - AtJazz Remix
AtJazz is one of the most underrated DJs I know of. I found out about him because of a funk house set I’m in love with (link here) had him featured. I’m not familiar with most of his own stuff, but all of his remixes and sets are a guarantee to have a good time.
Hot - Willie Ninja (Louie Vega Mix)
Lately I’ve been constantly listening to the world’s best radio station (radio is cool again) (and closer than you might think 👀) Worldwide FM. Here I discovered this program called The Heavy Disco Spectacular, where Ashley Beedle plays new and old disco for a couple of hours. Here I discovered this track that made me want to go shred that dancefloor and it will do the same for you.
Those Days - Dal
Taking it back to those soothing slow jamz, Those Days is almost a purely instrumental track that only the second half includes vocals. This nostalgic song will make you feel warm but cold at the same time, like those old summer nights.
Sueño Fronterizo - Nortec: Bostich + Fussible / Kinky
This is not a great song, it’s an ok song. It’s so cliche and corny at times. BUT, it’s a song of Tijuana and it’s nightlife so I fucking love it. It makes me want to go por una caguama y una mezcal. Not being from a city like NYC, LA, CDMX makes me love every song that is about my hometown. It’s great for a night out in the happiest place on earth.
KENDRICK LAMAR
So this rec isn’t only about this song, it’s all KDot. Ever since the Super Bowl, I can’t stop watching Kendrick’s (short but excellent) performance (and thinking about his amazing fit), which only got me more hyped for his new album (which I dumbly believe it’s coming soon bc he changed his spotify profile pic).
