Today is new music friday, fit check friday, and music rec friday. Every Friday I’ll try to send a recap of the songs that I (or other guests) have been listening throughout the week. This week we have recs from two fellow music club members (Mónica & Salvador). I hope to encourage to listen to tracks you haven’t listened to yet and maybe help you discover your new favorite artist.
Let’s get this bread and the music recs flowing.
Fool Me Jack - Psychic Mirrors
We all know that friend who sends you a song from an obscure artist that tells you that after the beginning of the song with a distorted synth, out of tempo drums, and a incomprehensible voice, the song gets unreal. Well this is song is basically that.
I was definitely not ready for when the orchestra and punk rock guitar meshed together into an arp-like sound. That actually doesn’t happen, but know you’re curious what is waiting for you on the other side.
Jazz Club After Hours - Barry Can’t Swim
It’s 7pm on a friday. You’ve been working/studying all day and need a break. But also, you want to go out or see some friends later. You either take a nap or a shower to muster up some energy for later. Eventually you either start getting ready or start prepping up your place to host your friends.
You need a soundtrack for this. Good news, this is it.
Fair Chance - Thundercat (Floating Points Remix)
Sam Shepherd, known as Floating Points, is a superb producer that uses electronic keys as a perfect duo for Thundercat’s low-tone voice. This track shows us how swell the combination of hip-hop and electronic music can sound like.
Dollaz + Sense - DJ Quik
There’s a reason why the 90s mainstream music scene was flooded by hip-hop. DJ Quik was one of the main figures of the G-funk style of West Coast hip-hop. If you need a cruising anthem for the last weeks of summer, this is it. Also, it’s the perfect song for that time of the day.
Liquido Elemento - El Dragón Criollo y El Palmas
There’s a reason why white ppl say Latinx culture is filled with flavor. Even though this song is filled with horns tipically associated to African-American culture, the fusion of this, some high tempo drums, and electric guitar gives it that Latinx feeling that makes you want to get up and dance.
